Agora!

So today we got to sleep in some (hooray!) because we only had a short excursion to the Ancient Agora of Athens. When we got there we got to learn a little more about Athenian Democracy back in the day and how it related back to some of the structures built in the Agora thanks to a well done presentation by a fellow classmate Jimmy.

This site was a little bit different than some of our other site visits we've been on...there was shade! The Agora reminded me somewhat of modern day communities that I've run into in the US except there weren't actual building included, mostly just remains. But there was one exception, The temple of Hephaestus (picture included). It is said to be one of the best preserved Greek temples, you could even see what the inside of the temple looked like! Another interesting part of site is that we got to see the remains of  the prison that Socrates was help captive in.

After we fully explored the Agora, some of us headed out to do some more exploring, but first, we were hungry! I admit, this time we visited one of the more touristy places, but we still ordered and enjoyed some tasty traditional Greek dishes including Greek salad, souvlaki (kinda like meat kebabs), and halva (a yummy cake like dessert). Once we all had full tummies, we headed to the shops! There were lots of interesting shops to look at, but my group was mainly searching for a good purse/backpack (bor-ring), needless to say I was a bit cranky having to wait in the heat for my friends to  chose if they wanted buy it now or later, nothing some good ice cream can't fix! I ended up finding a store towards the middle of the square with lots of different flavors to chose from (I got snickers, picture included!)

Once I successfully consumed my delicious ice cream, we headed back to the dorms. Unfortunately this time, we weren't so lucky in finding our way back home. The bus that usually drops us off near campus decided to oddly take a different route (and yes, I'm pretty positive we took the right bus). When we got off we were all a bit grumpy from the long day so some complaining could be heard on our search back. Eventually we found our home here in Athens, and now I got to explore a little bit more of our neighborhood that I hadn't before!
